About Move Pianos

Andre Struts founded Move Pianos upon discovering how many pianos were being destroyed by movers who did not have the proper equipment for the job. And most general moving companies are not even structured to assist with piano movements! Move Pianos has successfully moved hundreds of pianos in the Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario since 2019—one successful delivery at a time—establishing a reputation in the community as a safe, reliable way of moving pianos.

Our business does not move anything but pianos; that is OUR business model and not a marketing strategy! We do not move furniture, boxes, or mattresses. Our highly trained, knowledgeable movers have received training related to both piano mechanics and how to move pianos, and our trucks are set up specifically for transporting musical instruments. Our padded blankets, dollies, and straps are all also specifically designed for moving pianos!

Piano Moving Services We Offer in Newmarket

01

Upright Piano Moving

Whether you have a spinet, console, studio upright, or professional upright piano, we treat them all with the utmost caution. What makes these heavy tall pianos difficult in staircases to move around is their weight distribution; however, we use our specially designed dollies and moving boards to safely transport these pianos through all doorways, hallways, and off the truck with no scratches or drama.

02

Baby Grand and Grand Piano Moving

Getting your grand piano safely moved involves disassembling the instrument, removing the legs, removing the pedal lyre and removing the lid before wrapping those pieces in heavy-duty blankets and padding. Then we load the piano using specialized ramps and we will then reassemble it at the destination. We have experience moving every type of grand piano: baby grand, parlour grand, living room grand and concert grand pianos throughout the Newmarket area and beyond. There are specific handling requirements for each of the aforementioned styles of grand pianos that our trained staff are knowledgeable about.

03

Digital and Specialty Instrument Moving

Digital pianos may be less heavy; however, as a musical instrument, a digital piano must still be moved very delicately. This is important when the piano is placed on a weighted stand and also for pulling pianos into tight places and elevators in Newmarket condo and townhouse buildings. We also move other large musical instruments such as organs, harps, etc., using the same level of care and caution.

04

Long-Distance Piano Moving

Are you moving a piano from Newmarket to Ottawa, or from Newmarket to Vancouver, Alberta or anywhere else in Canada? We handle long-distance piano moves with the same level of care as local piano moves. In addition to packing your piano correctly, we also make sure that it gets safely transported in a climate-controlled vehicle and delivered to your home with a time window established.

05

Piano Storage

If your move-in date is not consistent with your move-out date, we have short- and long-term climate-controlled piano storage options. Having a place to keep your musical instrument safe while you are transitioning between homes helps ensure that your piano doesn't sit in a cold garage, or outside in a non-regulated warehouse between homes.

Piano Moving Costs in Newmarket

Pricing depends on the piano type, distance, and access conditions. Here's a general guide for Newmarket moves:

Piano TypeCostCrew & Access
Spinet, apartment-size, small/regular uprightfrom $3602 movers, main floor (up to 3 stairs included)
Heavy upright, baby grandfrom $4502 movers, main floor (up to 3 stairs included)
Semi-concert grand, 8 ft grand$550–$7002 movers, main floor (up to 3 stairs included)

Extra charges may apply for stair access beyond two flights, elevator-only buildings, long-carry distances, or very tight spaces. We'll always let you know beforehand—no surprises on moving day.

Factors That Affect Your Moving Cost

Three of the most important pieces that determine how a piano will be moved are the type of piano being moved, the condition of access at both the pickup and drop off locations, and the distance between them. For example, if you’re moving a piano from Newmarket to Richmond Hill, it’s a pretty simple job. However, if you’re moving from Newmarket to Barrie on the same day, it’s going to take longer and cost you more.

Access is critical to how we move pianos; therefore, if there is a set of stairs, an elevator-accessible condo, or a very narrow walkway lit only by a flashlight, this information allows us to plan accordingly. If you have the dimensions of the piano, it is crucial to provide those as well; with the exception of a grand piano, vague information can produce delays in scheduling and/or showing up with the appropriate vehicles and/or pieces of equipment to perform the move.

Ontario's Ministry of Transportation notes that consumers should always receive a written estimate before a mov

How a Newmarket Piano Move Works

01

Get a Free Estimate

Call us at (647) 870-1646 or fill in the quote form. Tell us the piano type, pickup address, delivery address, and any access challenges (stairs, elevator, narrow hallway). We'll give you a clear, affordable upfront price—no guessing, no surprise fees on moving day.

02

We Plan the Route

Prior to getting there we take into account how we will move. This includes Door Widths, angle of the staircase, size of the elevator, outside pathways to name just a few things. In Newmarket homes we have more specific features that we plan for such as a garage with a tight entry and a raised bungalow with side entrance and some of the newer development of townhouses where the hallways are often too narrow to move large items through.

03

We Prepare and Load Your Piano

A qualified piano mover will separate any sections of the piano that are separate from each other, both of the piano and the various components, in addition to wrapping both the piano and all other components in heavy-duty blankets or padding and providing a variety of ramps and dollies for transporting them. Your floor at your home will also be protected with ramps and dollies to protect against damage from scuffing, and your door frames will be protected against damage from any scuffing.

04

Delivery and Placement

Your piano will be delivered to your home in the exact location where you want to set it up. If you need to take your piano upstairs, we will. If your hallway is too narrow, we will carefully place your piano directly in the area that you agree to by doing all we can to provide you with a solution. We deliver your piano to your designated area, but we do not deliver to your front door.

Why Customers Choose Move Pianos

This is something we get asked frequently. The reason we have chosen to specialize in one thing is that all of our team members are trained for the sole purpose of transporting pianos, not to move everything in your home and throw a piano into the mix. You will notice a difference on moving day!

Families entrust us with their pianos that have been in their homes for thirty years; music schools trust us to deliver/transport their teaching instruments, and piano dealers in the GTA trust us to deliver new pianos to their customers. Repeat business and referrals from customers haven’t happened by accident.

We have every type of equipment needed to move pianos: specialized piano dollies, padded ramps, heavy-duty straps and blankets, and floor protection boards. We arrive on site with the right equipment for the job because we have evaluated what needs to be done prior to arriving on-site.

96% referral rate. Most of our Newmarket bookings come from word-of-mouth. Customers recommend us to their neighbours, their piano teachers, and their kids’ music schools. That says more than any ad could.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time do I need to allow before booking my piano move in Newmarket?

We suggest making your reservation at least one week in advance. This is especially critical during spring and fall, when increased moving activity occurs in the York Region. We can occasionally accommodate last-minute requests; just call us and we’ll let you know our availability.

Will the quote I receive from you be guaranteed or can it change?

Your quote is guaranteed, provided that the access conditions you describe to us prior to moving remain unchanged on moving day. If you say that the piano will be moved from a ground floor with no stairs and there are actually four flights of stairs, we’ll work out the differences before beginning the move.

Is my piano protected while in transit?

Yes, each piano we ship is insured while being transported. Even though we've moved hundreds of pianos accident-free across Southern Ontario, we have insurance coverage in case of an accident during the shipping process. If your instrument is considered to be a high-value item (such as a Steinway, Bösendorfer or vintage upright), please let us know at the time of scheduling your move, and we'll advise on other options for additional insurance coverage.

Do you have the skills and equipment required to move a piano up or down a flight of stairs?

Yes, our professional movers have the training and experience to safely handle working on stairs and each mover is equipped with proper tools. If the staircase is narrow or the landing area awkward, please inform us of what type of stairs we’ll face in order to have appropriate planning done.

Will you take apart a grand piano in order to move it?

Yes, all grand pianos must be disassembled in order to be moved. Legs, pedal lyres, and lids must be removed prior to transport; we will disassemble your piano upon pick-up, wrap each individual part, and put it back together once we deliver it to your new residence. This process is the standard method for moving grand pianos.

How long will it take to move my Newmarket upright piano?

Most local upright pianos typically take 1.5-2 hours to be moved. On the other hand, most baby grand pianos would take an average of 2.5-3.5 hours and they may take longer or shorter depending upon how easy they are to access. If you are moving long distance, you will need a separate estimate.

Are you able to perform piano movers' duties between Newmarket and towns in the GTA such as Toronto?

Yes, we regularly transport pianos to/from all locations in Southern Ontario; we perform piano moves between Toronto, Oshawa, Barrie, etc. To receive an accurate estimate, please give both locations when requesting a quotation.

If the move-out date and move-in date differ can my piano be stored with you until the second move is scheduled?

Yes, we offer climate-controlled storage for pianos; your piano will not be stored in an unregulated or unconditioned building while waiting to be delivered.

Can you move my piano over the weekend?

Yes, we can and we do. Our typical business hours are Monday - Sunday from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM. We are happy to provide a piano moving quotation during standard business hours, but if you want to schedule a piano move on Saturday or Sunday, don’t wait until the last minute to make that reservation, as availability for weekend piano moving appointments fills up quickly.
