Moving a piano is not an easy task in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Every address presents a new problem. For example, the split-level bungalows of Mill Pond, the narrow townhouse hallways found in Langstaff or the high-rise condominiums near Richmond Hill Centre. We are skilled at reading properties quickly. We always do a walk-through of the proposed route before touching the piano. We also check to see if there are staircases and elevators that will be used to transport the piano. We’ve completed over 600 piano moves across the GTA, Richmond Hill included, and we’ve built our reputation doing this one job well. No general movers here. No, “we’ll figure it out on the day.” We’re piano specialists—and that difference shows. For a free estimate, call (647) 870-1646.

Piano Moving in Richmond Hill — We Know What This City Throws at You

Many moving companies consider pianos to be "heavy" like furniture but at Move Pianos, that's not how we see it. We are a professional piano moving firm which only moves pianos. The difference is real, as we have specialized equipment, trained methods, and a team that are professional movers, and have performed the task of moving a piano upstairs in a split-level entry in Bayview Hill too many times to count and have performed pre-move evaluations on residence properties ahead of time. We will always adhere to the specific procedures required to move your piano as they may weigh as much as 1,200 lbs., therefore the right type of moving equipment will be required for the completion of the logistics of moving your piano.

Piano Moving Services We Offer in Richmond Hill

01

Upright Piano Moving

Uprights are available as spinet, console, studio/artist, and full-size uprights. We typically get to show our skills by moving pianos through the difficult stairways and landings in Richmond Hill. Custom skid boards and moving blankets are used for all piano relocations so that your floors and walls are not damaged.

02

Grand Piano Moving

Grand pianos include the baby grand, medium grand, parlour grand, and concert grand piano. Grand pianos must be disassembled to be relocated by removing the lid, legs, lyre, and pedal box and wrapping them individually. A concert grand piano can weigh up to 1,200 pounds, so special handling and full disassembly gain extra consideration when relocating them. They are then reassembled at your new location in the position you requested.

03

In-Home & Within-Building Relocation

Are you moving your piano from one room to another, or from floor to floor? Use the same care and equipment. Many homeowners in Richmond Hill require relocation of their pianos after performing renovations or have rearranged their furniture — we can help you as well.

04

Long-Distance Piano Moving

Are you moving from Richmond Hill to another province or city? We specialize in long distance moving with safe transportation across the country. Your piano will be safely transported in a climate controlled truck, rather than bouncing around in a standard moving van. We will take care of everything related to your move allowing for a more seamless transition into its new location.

Our prices are based on the actual time spent moving your piano (the type of piano, how we access it, distance, stair or elevator coordination). How a Piano Move Works With Us

01

Free Estimate

Fill out our request for a quote form or give us a call to explain what kind of piano you have, where we are picking it up from, and where we are delivering it to (this includes both residential and commercial properties). Also, if you have any known obstacles in the way of getting your piano out of your home or to your new home (stairs, tight hallways, have to reserve a condo elevator) be sure to include those too. Once we have this information, we will give you an exact price including any extras.

02

Property Assessment & Route Planning

Before moving day, we inspect all doorways and staircases. The width of the door, the angle of the stair or how to reserve an elevator are all things we will do ahead of time to eliminate surprises on moving day.

03

Wrapping & Secure Transport

When we pick the piano up to move it, we will secure the piano using a padded strap and moving blanket and put skid boards under the base of the piano. Disassemble the grand piano—not ship upright pianos, but we will ship upright pianos vertically. When loading the piano, it will always be loaded properly and not shoved into our truck.

04

Delivery & Final Placement

Once we arrive at the new location, we will unwrap the piano and place it where you would like it. Grand pianos will be put back together at the new location; we will check to make sure all parts function properly, and you are satisfied with the placement of the piano we have placed at your new location and nothing will be left to chance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the prices for moving pianos in Richmond Hill?

When pricing upright pianos, the price of moving one can vary based on size and access (stairs, elevator and distance) and start at $360. When pricing grand pianos the rates for moving them start from $450 and increase depending on the size and level of complexity (stairs, elevator and distance). Our quote will be an exact price rather than an estimate that could increase the day of the move.

Is your company insured? What if something gets damaged while moving a piano?

We fully insure all moves, so your piano will be covered from the time the wrapping starts until it is in place at the new location. Since starting to move pianos in 2019 we have completed over 600 moves and have not had any damage claims. If you would like to see proof of insurance or have insurance questions prior to booking a move, feel free to call us.

Will you move grand pianos in the Richmond Hill condominium complex?

Yes, we do move grand pianos in condominiums located near Richmond Hill Centre as well as those along the Yonge Street corridor. Most condominiums require advance scheduling for elevator usage and have specific times for moving in/out. Our company will coordinate with the management of the building on your behalf to ensure that all of the above are taken care of before your move is completed.

How long in advance of the move should I book with you?

We recommend booking your move at least one week prior to moving, especially for weekend moves, as those fill up quickly. If you wish to book a weekday move, we can frequently accommodate moves booked within a shorter timeframe. Please call us and we can provide you with an accurate timeframe for availability.

Are you able to move pianos during the winter months?

Yes, we offer year-round piano moving services in Richmond Hill. The main concern during the winter months when moving a piano is that when you bring a piano in from the cold outdoor weather to a warm indoor environment it will cause humidity shock. This can affect tuning/soundboard/internal components of a piano by causing them to contract and expand at the same time. For this reason, after completing a move in the winter months, we recommend allowing your piano a minimum of 48 hours to settle in before having it tuned. A dedicated piano mover can also provide you with arrangements or referrals for tuning services after your piano is delivered.

What do I need to do to prepare my piano for your arrival?

If you have an upright piano, you should lock the key cover in order to protect the keys prior to the mover’s arrival. You should also clear a pathway from the piano to the front door. If you have a grand piano, you will need to remove anything from the top of the piano. Other than these two steps, you do not need to prepare any other items for your move. Our crew will take care of wrapping, disassembling and performing all heavy lifting so you have a worry-free moving experience. There is no preparation required for other items because our crew will take the utmost care in wrapping all of the items moved with your piano.

Do you offer storage for pianos in Richmond Hill?

Yes, we have climate controlled storage for pianos in which we keep an even regulated temperature and relative humidity. Climate control is the most important consideration for the proper storage of a piano that will be stored for more than one or two weeks (relative humidity and temperature).
