Piano Storage or a Self-Storage Unit?

A self-storage locker can hold a piano, but it was built for boxes. The difference shows up months later, when the piano comes out.

Wood, felt, leather and glue all react to swings in heat and humidity. A piano kept through a winter in an unheated unit drifts out of tune, can pick up mold, and in the worst case its soundboard cracks.

When Piano Storage Makes Sense

  • The sale closes before the new place is ready.
  • Floors or walls are being redone, and the piano has to leave the room for weeks.
  • A long-distance move has a later delivery window than the move-out date.
  • You are downsizing but keeping the family piano for a child or a future home.
  • A piano store or dealer has more instruments than floor space.

How Piano Storage Works, Step by Step

  1. Free quote

Call or send the quote form with the piano type, the pickup address, how long it may stay, and how many instruments there are. Photos of the stairs or the elevator help us price the pickup correctly. You get the storage rate and the moving price before anything is booked, and a local pickup usually fits within 3–5 business days. Weekends fill up first.

  2. Pickup and packing

The crew lays down floor protection, then wraps the piano in moving blankets and stretch wrap. An upright goes onto a skid board in one piece. A grand is taken apart on the spot: legs, lyre, lid, and music rack come off, and every part is wrapped separately before it goes to the truck.

  3. Storage

The piano goes into our clean, climate-controlled warehouse and stays there for as long as you need, whether that is a month between homes or a much longer stay. Nothing is required from you while it is stored.

  4. Delivery and set-up

Call when the new place is ready. A local delivery is booked like any local move, usually within 3–5 business days. A delivery to another province travels in a climate-controlled truck and needs about two weeks' notice, with the delivery window agreed in advance. The crew carries the piano to the room you choose, reassembles a grand, and sets the instrument in place.

How Much Does Piano Storage Cost?

It is charged for storage on an individual basis. This is dependent on how many instruments are being stored, their sizes, and their storage duration, which you will get notified of over the phone.

Piano Storage Near You in the GTA

We collect pianos for storage all around Toronto such as Downtown and North York, and from Etobicoke, Scarborough, Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Newmarket, and Brampton, Markham, and Oakville, depending on whether your piano will stay in storage in Toronto or whether it will be transferred further down the road to Vancouver.

We provide transport services after storing in Ontario, elsewhere in Canada, or out of province.

FAQ

For how long will my piano be stored?

As long as necessary, be it several weeks or a much longer stay. Short-term and long-term storage are both available.

Will my piano be insured while being transferred into and out of storage?

The move will be covered by insurance that is included in the cost of transportation anyway. If your piano is a Steinway, a Bösendorfer, or an expensive old upright, mention it while booking the service.

Can my piano be stored in winter?

Yes, we transfer pianos throughout the year including January. The piano is wrapped with blankets and stretch wrap in the house and is kept at a constant temperature at the warehouse until delivery.

Will the storage facility allow me to keep several pianos there along with mine?

A frequent request. An individual with one piano pays a different fee compared to the dealer with twelve instruments, so be sure to mention your number of pianos.

What should I do before storing my piano?

Very little. For an upright, close the keyboard lid and clear a path to the door. For a grand, take everything off the lid. Wrapping, disassembly and floor protection are on our crew.

Will you be able to deliver my piano to another province after storing it?

Yes. We deliver it anywhere in Ontario or to another province, with a delivery window agreed in advance.
